until two and a half cops is released
Since I am a huge fan of John Travolta’s hair the upcoming release of the Punisher: Extended Cut DVD caught my eye. With the recent proposals to build a movie studio of our very own right here in Tampa I think it is a good time to remember this cult classic. Cult in this case means the group of people that will buy any movie that is in the 99 cent bin at Wal-Mart. You didn’t know there was an untapped market of blind and deaf movie fans did you (Sunrise Cinemas are you listening)?
I remember watching the interviews of the director and crew who worked on the movie and being more that a bit surprised that although people had told them filiming in Tampa in the summer meant heat, humidity, and daily rain they didn’t listen. Shooting had to stop for the rain and dehydration became a problem. I guess nothing stinks up an action movie like your hero turning red and falling over from heat exhaustion.
I don’t like this review though. It is one thing to say how bad a movie The Punisher is but to then follow it up with …
PS: You lost me at Tampa, Florida.
… is just plain mean. Maybe we can score the next big Tom Cruise movie now that he is out of the Hollywood system? I see MI:4 shot in downtown Clearwater what do you all think? “This pamphlet will self destruct in thirty seconds . . . ”

The Punisher happens to be one of the titles slated to be released on Blu-ray as well…

The Punisher was a terrible, terrible movie… I mean, crap, they tried to use the tampa skyline in so many shots to add some meat to it.
The Punisher is supposed to be a bloody and gritty film and from teh onset (the fact it was shot here) does actually hurt the movie (justifying the rather wretched reviewer remark). But the fact there is a bloodless massacre of Frank Castle’s family — guns blazing and people getting run over but no blood? — I couldn’t watch this thing past the first 30 minutes. There are inane action movies that can entertain and there are steaming piles of garbage such as this.
I feel bad for Tampa and it’s possible film industry simply because it’s stuck with stinkers like this to “Highlight” the areas film potential.

I liked the Punisher. Had really black hearted characters. Probably a lot like some of the County and City joint committees.

I’m going to have to watch “The Punisher” again, because I liked it the first time.

I wrote a paper on this movie, though I can’t for the life of me remember what the overall point was. Portrayal of the mafia, I guess.

Sykes makes hot dogs?! Dreaming pleeeease lighten up. I was making a joke. Might not have been funny, might not have translated well in this little box, but a joke nonetheless. (Note: Sykes doesn’t really make hot dogs. That’s a joke too!)
