September 6, 1986 – Film legend James Stewart appears at Das Festhaus in Busch Gardens as the main attraction in a $100-plate fundraiser for the United Service Organization (U.S.O.) of Tampa. Stewart, a World War II aviator who flew 20 combat missions over Germany, played Air Force Lt. Col. Robert “Dutch” Holland in the 1955 film “Strategic Air Command,” some of which was shot in the Tampa Bay area. Stewart also visited MacDill Air Force Base and inspected an F-16 jet fighter from inside the cockpit during his weekend visit to Tampa.
