HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY NEWS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Lutz Senior Center in Need of Volunteer Computer Instructors
A hot meal and a good feeling about helping others are just two of the benefits that go along with volunteering at the Hillsborough County Lutz Senior Center at 112 First Ave. N.W. The Center is in need of volunteer computer instructors for beginning and advanced students, aged 55 and older. The Center would like to start the classes in October.
The Beginner Level Course instructor will teach basic word processing, accessing the Internet, Internet security and creating e-mails. The course will take place on Mondays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for three weeks.
The Advanced Level Course instructor will teach basics in Microsoft applications, creating documents and other forms, and Internet security. The course will take place on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. until noon for three weeks.
The volunteer will be required to undergo a background check and orientation. On the days they teach, volunteers can join the other participants at the Senior Center for a hot meal at noon.
For more information, please contact Frances Nieto, Senior Center Manager, Aging Services, at 264-3803.

Cool - you get a hot lunch from the county if you give ‘em a hand. But in case that does not trip your trigger, if any of our readers volunteers for this, I will give an additional $25 gift certificate for Pelagia Trattoria - the fine Mediterranean cuisine restaurant at International Mall. If you haven’t eaten here, you will like it - just read the rave reviews about Pelagia. TampaGold has had a few parties there too!
If you volunteer to help the seniors surf the web, please contact me (leave a comment below with a valid email address) once you sign up with the county. I’ll make sure you get the gift certificate.
