On September 22 I will be co-hosting a panel at BlogOrlando on hyperlocal blogging. Hosted by Josh Hallett, the unconference will bring people together from all over the country to discuss blogging, podcasting, public relations, social media, citizen journalism and other related topics.
I will be sharing the spotlight with Joey Marchy of Urban Jacksonville. That website
focuses on the neighborhoods closest to downtown JAX. We will be discussing hyperlocal blogs and the implications on the way community news is covered now and in the future. Hyperlocal blogging is sometimes used to refer to coverage of smaller events and happenings that are sometimes overlooked by mainstream media outlets. Josh Hallett wants to know: Can bloggers cover communities more effectively than traditional media?
This free-form discussion might also include topics such as:
If you have suggestions on related topics or want to tell me ywhat YOU consider “hyperlocal,” I’d love to hear your comments.
Blog Orlando is a FREE event hosted by Hyku and Rollins College. The event is open to bloggers and non-bloggers alike from Florida and anywhere else. If you want to show up for pieces of it, here’s the entire BlogOrlando Schedule.

Man, you really heart Josh. Seriously, since you’re Big Media Tommy now, why don’t you and Bill do a blogging conference. If you put me on a panel with Right Wing Howler I come.

Looking forward to meeting you guys. I was thinking about this session while in NOLA last week. I’m somewhat new to the whole field of hyperlocal but wrote up some thoughts about local blogging in New Orleans on Earthling today.
