September 8, 1936 – The Works Progress Administration (WPA) approves construction of a $97,000 ($1.3 million in today’s dollars) administration building for Peter O. Knight Airport on Davis Islands. The building completed the final piece of a federal program for the development of Tampa’s new airport for which $375,000 ($5 million in today’s dollars) had already been authorized and spent. Mayor Robert E.L. Chancey promised full cooperation of the city to W.P. Ingram, the W.P.A. district director.
