September 9, 1966 – Lt. Gen. Luis Navarro, chief of the Spanish general air staff, visits Strike Command headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base as part of a two-week tour of U.S. Air Force facilities. Navarro was awarded Spain’s second-highest commendation, the Military Medal, for “the most bombing raids” during the Spanish Civil War. Navarro also served as General Francisco Franco’s pilot during the war. A reception was held for Navarro at the Officers’ Club, followed by a dinner at the residence of Gen. Paul P. Adams.
