October 24, 1906 – A “report of schools” is published in the Tampa Morning Tribune, detailing the spending on both the white and African American schools. There were 82 white schools with a total of 187 teachers, as compared to 19 schools with 30 teachers for African American students. The student population was 6,749 vs. 1,385, and the average salary for teachers was as follows: white male, $66.00; white female, $48.27; black male, $43.64; black female, $34.12 ($1 in 1906 equals $20.52 in today’s dollars). The average school term was 126 days for white students and 101 for African American students.
