Tampa Bay Business Journal: Tampa Bay dailies see circulation drops.

The Tampa Tribune and the St. Petersburg Times both suffered some of the steepest daily circulation declines in the Tampa Bay region over the past year showing what could be a continued declining interest in print news.

Throughout the region, daily newspaper circulation dropped 2.8 percent while Sunday circulation fell 2.6 percent. The Bradenton Herald was the only publication that saw an increase in its daily circulation numbers.

The Times was the only publication to see a slight increase in its Sunday papers, rising just 0.2 percent to 386,661 issues. The Tribune, on the other hand, dropped 4.8 percent from 291,749 in 2005 to 278,411 this year.

If you are an advertiser, you might start looking to the internet for alternative ways to get your message out.

Of course it ain’t all bad. If you look at the story, the paper that put out that report actually had an increase in circulation

Especially if you’re “Important?” and “Attractive?” Cause God know those are sought-after qualities in an online shopper. Sorry, but I find the above tampagold.com ad slightly inane and a little insulting. I’m ugly and not a legend in my own mind and I spend a lot of $$ online. All about the customers you want to attract (or appear to). Sigh.

And yet profits are up 18% and ad rates go up by a considerable amount every year.

It’s just like Clear Channel killing the :60 in favor of the :30 while charging you more for less.

I guess the only answer to “why do they keep doing that” is that they can …

Sticks and others charge no dues or subscription so expenses need to covered in some way. These sites are very demanding.

But what really bothers me is when we see the public schools being used as ad mediums with company sponsors names on the out front signs.

Next time you stop at a traffic light, pay attention to all the ad messages bombarding you: the brand of your car on the steering wheel, the logos on the trash by the road, signs - signs - everywhere signs, park benches, the logos on the cars in front of you, the logo on your own clothes - welcome to America !

We think they should all just buy ads on our websites where: we are cheap for the reach, environmentally friendly, allow access to more information, and help pay OUR bills. You know US !

Just for your info - the $7 per day billboards are now a thing of the past, Bryan Media sold out to CBS. $12 per day now - call them and ask.
