empowering the people
There were a handful of things that made me long for Tampa when I was away; among the things I looked forward to is the 12-hour Power to the People: A Tribute to the Songs of Protest, Dissent and Electoral Dysfunction celebration this Saturday at Skipper’s Smokehouse from noon to midnight. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this since I first sat in on the recording of the song at ‘MNF studios way back when.
Ironically enough, while in Seattle I was writing in Caffe Vita, my favorite coffee place of all time (except for the Globe, of course, with its staff of talented hotties), when they played The Very Best of John Lennon album in its entirety. I think it was the first time I heard the original version of Power to the People. Young and underexposed, yes I know. But I’m making up for it now.
Come to Skipper’s for food, drink, socializing and song as you have enough time to get sideways in the afternoon and still leave sober when it’s time to go home. And remember, voting under the influence, much like driving under the influence, is always a bad idea. We know how funny those machines can be when we’re sober.
