fifty two city council hopefuls

Yep – that says fifty two.  One for each week in the year.  One for each card in a deck (but i doubt there are no jokers here).  Holy Cow!

No less than 52 Tampa citizens have petitioned for two vacant city council seats. Those chosen by the remaining five councilmen will work from December to March for $600/week.

The appointee for Ferlita’s citywide seat can live anywhere in Tampa. They are:

  1. Enza Aiello, interior designer;
  2. Ross Alander, organizational consultant and labor arbitrator;
  3. W. Reynolds Allen, labor and employment lawyer;
  4. Robert Ashworth, salesman at Home Depot;
  5. Cole Atkinson, parks attendant for Tampa;
  6. Joseph Bryant, lawyer and president of the South Seminole Heights Action Committee;
  7. L. Mark Carron, vice president at Raymond James Financial;
  8. Denise Cassedy, president of the Davis Islands Civic Association;
  9. Denise Chavez, owner of Chavez at Home, a restaurant in south Tampa, and daughter of former Councilwoman Helen Chavez;
  10. Karencia Ciagala, public service officer with the Tampa Police Department;
  11. Joseph Citro, hair stylist and member of the city’s code enforcement and civil service boards;
  12. Robert Clark Jr., Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority board member and president of Tampa Steel Erecting;
  13. Logan Cobb, a Plant High School student who lost a bid for Hillsborough County School Board;
  14. Jill Collins, former chair of the Barrio Latino Commission and vice chair of the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council;
  15. Neil Cosentino, retired Air Force major;
  16. Walter Crumbley, former federal administrative law judge;
  17. Eddie Diaz, self-employed businessman;
  18. Sean Donnelly, member of the code enforcement board and neighborhood activist;
  19. Charles “Chip” Fletcher, lawyer and environmental engineer;
  20. Don Gordon, Air Force retiree;
  21. Aria Ray Green, nurse and former Tampa fire chief;
  22. Julie Harris, employee at Tampa Bay Federal Credit Union who worked in former Mayor Dick Greco’s office;
  23. Bob Henriquez, former state representative;
  24. James Holmes, part-time chaplain for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and founder of the Judeo Christian Health Clinic;
  25. Joel Thomas Hooper, accounting analyst for CP Ships;
  26. James Jones, substitute teacher at Academy of the Holy Names and Air Force retiree;
  27. John Jones, member of the Architectural Review Commission;
  28. Debra Kent Faulk, president of marketing firm DKF Connects;
  29. Susan Long, active in Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association;
  30. Seth Nelson, lawyer who sits on the city’s Variance Review Board;
  31. Randy Osiason, president of Stanley Chair Co.;
  32. William Podolsky III, lawyer;
  33. Jane Siling, retired Tampa police major;
  34. Missy Steadman, active in Golf View Civic & Garden Association;
  35. Mike Suarez, risk management consultant at Wachovia Insurance Services;
  36. Stuart Suls, certified public accountant;
  37. Michael Tedesco, president of Accurate Laminating;
  38. Anna Torrens, adjunct faculty instructor at the University of South Florida’s College of Public Health;
  39. Jose Vazquez, coordinator at Shamrock Event Services;
  40. Ana Rabelo Wallrapp, president of Wallrapp Architecture & Interior Design and Variance Review Board member;
  41. John Weiss, president of Virginia Park Neighborhood Association;
  42. M.F. “Ted” Wilson, works for Bay Brick Pavers.

Applicants for White’s seat, who must live in District 5, are:

  1. Warren Hope Dawson, former assistant city attorney;
  2. Isell Denson, member of the mayor’s African American Advisory Council;
  3. Kim Henderson, who works in sales;
  4. Lynette Judge, Hillsborough schools social worker;
  5. Beverly Morrow, former president of the Southeast Seminole Heights Civic Association;
  6. Frank Reddick, executive board member of the East Tampa Partnership;
  7. Joseph Robinson, professional engineer;
  8. Tamara Patrice Shamburger, mortgage broker;
  9. Bruce Tigert, president of Bayshore Title Insurance Co.;
  10. Chester White Jr., former city council candidate.

    Bob Henriquez is a former state representative, a football coach at Tampa Catholic, and a friend to all Tampans. There are many fine people on that list, but I would be most enthusiastic about Mr. Bob Henriquez. He is a thoughtful guy who identifies with working people and ordinary citizens. However, i didnt google him, sorry!

    I am happy to see people who care enough to step forward. I know some of the people listed and they are good folks. Still, I didn’t see Charlie Miranda’s name and I wish I did…he’s prolly had enough of city council to last him for a while.
