From Hillsborough County Animal Services:
Once upon a time, Bear and Buddy had a loving home in Lithia until their elderly owner recently passed away. The dogs were left in the yard for at least two weeks, surviving on food brought by a neighbor.
The children of the deceased are living out of state. They tried calling local rescue groups to take the dogs but had no luck. Finally, they discovered Hillsborough County Animal Services. On December 3rd, Bear and Buddy were brought to the shelter on Falkenburg Road. They were covered with burrs and bugs. Thanks to the County and a groomer in Valrico, they’re getting a full make-over and a chance for new home.
Both dogs are older chow-chow mixes with great dispositions. They’ve been given medical work-ups, vaccinations, and microchips. Now they just need a permanent home, a home for the holidays. Hopefully, they’ll be adopted together.
For more information on Bear, Buddy, and all of the adoptables at the County shelter, please call Hillsborough County Animal Services at (813) 744-5660.
We here in the sticks caution you NOT to give pets as a surprise gift for someone. That just NEVER turns out well.

Tommy is right — surprise pets don’t make good gifts, but these do:
