December 27, 1901 – Tampa’s shipping industry takes a big step forward with the announcement of an additional freight and passenger line connecting the port with Norfolk, Pensacola, Mobile and New Orleans. The line would eventually extend to the “Nicaragua” Canal and to ports in the Pacific Ocean.
