your thoughts on pam-cakes?

Some of you might have already noticed, but here at Sticks of Fire we are conducting an impromptu, unscientific, just-post-your-darn-opinion poll on Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio.

We’d love to hear your thoughts, opinions and general jibber-jabber about the Mayor, the job she’s doing and her potential re-election rivals… So please, vote in our poll and leave a comment here.

Are the biggest problems in Tampa being addressed? Are they being fixed?

Crime is down and she is protective of public coffers in large part. Also she made a good call on slapping Tampa developers with the bill for the water supply improvements rather than pushing the cost onto the entire city. She is tall, which is cool. On the other hand she totally screwed up Kiley Gardens. However every time I have ever emailed or called any city department with a question or complaint I got an informed reply quickly. If I can lay the blame for all the city governments failings at the Mayor’s feet then I have to give her the credit when they do something right as well.

she has zero vision. the art museum? enough said. disastrous. the river walk? another nice park for bums. downtown? still dead on arrival. except for the occasional stray bullet. ybor? a disaster in the making as things head in the absolute wrong direction? nebraska and florida avenues? still dumps. im afraid pamcakes is the jery ford of city hall: a caretaker at best, not a leader. and for gods sake, get a new hairdo…its 2007, not 1957.

Yeah! Bring back that madcap Dick Greco and build that bullfighting ring he always wanted.
Frankly, Tampa has always had crappy mayors.

Whatever happens, just keep Greco, Sandy Freedman and other Tampa political mainstays and mayoral throwbacks out of office.

As for Pam being “A caretaker at best” — that’s all ANY elected official is supposed to be. You’re a temp on the job when you get elected to office — NOT a developer.

Right on, John. A mayor can only envision plans and encourage developers to bite. You can’t change these things in three years. Pam’s chief mistake on this end was promoting it all a little too much, as if it COULD get done in no time.

I’m frankly more willing to trust someone who is clearly not willing to pander developers (possibly to a fault) than someone like Greco who just couldn’t help but love Steven LaBrake until he was convicted.

Pam has had some surprising missteps that a credible opponent could exploit. Her City of the Arts is not done, unorganized and a failure up to now…neighborhood improvements are not improvements just regular upkeep…we’re still waiting for the Gandy sidewalk what 7 years now?…her plans to militarize Ballast Point and Interbay homes could lose her key support in these neighborhoods and perhaps all of South of Gandy (SOG)…half a dozen major pipe breaks beats Grecos 2 or 3…and my least favorite….water, garbage collection, license fees, parking tickets and her Stormwater Tax are all much much higher today than when she got elected…lots and lots of high priced managers…health benefits to the going-steady crowd….and she was against the Property Tax Cut…she can be beat… If no credible opponent runs I intend to not vote in the Mayor’s race as a PROTEST because I am disappointed at her performance…We’ll take freewheeling Dickie any day. With him, we at least moved forward…it did co$t a bunch though.

I have never heard expressed that someone (so many someones) hated a mayor of a city and that is all I hear everywhere I go. Personally have nothing against her but feel she is a buckpasser and also feel she had a hand in the dishonesty of the hillsborough county voting system and maybe that’s how she’s mayor in the first place. Business as usual in Tampa. She’s not bad on the surface but she won’t be re-elected. Won’t it be funny when Aria Ray Green takes over Tampa? Go aria !

Who the hell is Aria Green?

And while there are so many someone’s, as you state, it seems to be a vocal minority more-so than a lot of negativity towards the mayor from people in general.

for being not so well read .. perhaps you should adapt a watch and learn profile ..

Besides, what difference does it make how ‘vocal’ it is or whether you travel in wide enough circles to hear it expressed? Some people live in mighty thin air and shouldn’t be surprised to hear the truth well expressed.

Perhaps you shouldn’t hide behind anonymity, funny, when you tell people off. That or accept that Aria Green’s shot at office is about as likely as Denis Kucinich’s shot at the office of the Presidency of the United States. Slim to none.

And the one last question you need to ask yourself is this: What do the polls say? I have not seen a poll as dominantly negative as you try to paint Pam Iorio’s tenure as mayor. Nor do I see a city that is endeared to the hearsay you’ve tried to spread through comments.

Then you don’t get around much and it doesn’t get much more anonymous than john, now does it? hehe.

I guess we’ll look up those totally unbiased mason dixon pollsters, eh?

Dear John, You should take note that you are stating your opinion. Many people have a great deal of respect for Mr. Kucinich. I’m not sure where you get the idea that I was telling anyone off and I know as much about you as you know about me. Probably less as I’m DEFINITELY not a city/county employee typing away on the taxpayer’s dollar. How bout you?

In fact, even though I hear a troubling amount of vexation with Pam from everyone to my mechanic (33 years in same location) to every city employee except for the ones in her office and you … one more time, I have nothing personal against her. Yep, many many many people have expressed their extreme dislike for her.

What she basically says is THIS: THIS CITY IS NOT CLEAN ENOUGH.

    Check yourself, folks.

I notice we have half a million dollars worth of palm trees for the 2009 superbowl and the mayoral beautifation what have you and guess what? There are more homeless now than ever so perhaps we can get a homeless person to plunk down under every one of those palm trees. No money to help the homeless or fund the indigent care but plenty of dollars for fireworks in dt tampa. hmmmmmm
If you query da mayor on any of these matters she is happy to say that this is a county problem. But, I notice that she was happy to confront the county over the gay issue. I guess indigent care and the homeless stacked up five thicker than they were four years ago are just not sexy enough?

Again, this is an opinion. You have yours and I have mine. John and Funny.

I am not paid to express my opinion. Are you?

aria green is totally off target with light rail as not only have studies been done but we a history of a very good Light rail system here that was killed by General motors who bought our very functional and heavily used trolley system that ran from 5 am to 3 am every 7 min to 30 min apart depending on time and route.
the reason was simple GM made Buses so by destroying light rail the more costly buses could replace them which is why most buses run only once an hour and not on Sundays as the funds are not there to run them like the trolleys did
by the way GM did this all across the county which is why very few cities have trolleys now but there has never been a properly built trolley system fail in any city.
(some say Tampa trolley is a failed system and I agree only due to the fact it is incomplete so unstill it runs into local areas were people live and the malls and airport it is just not properly built)

i feel our mayor does so very little for tampa.
the only time you hear her name is when USF’s football team is doing well.
there is so much she could be doing for this city, but she does nothing.
Traffic is awful, i know everywhere, but she and the village idiots have done nothing to help it. New Tampa is awful, the traffic lights are set wrong, it is almost impossible to get out of some shopping centers, cross creek blvd is still a cluster.
why are you allowing builders to build new homes and new subdivisions, its not right.
Stop the damn building, with over 10000 homes for sale in Hillsborough cty., why would you allow new building at all, shut it down.

Aria Green has a 35 year old son that he abandoned. His son’s name is also Aria. He’s never gotten any help or emotional support or heard a word from his biological father. Aria Green is a hypocrite and coward.
