redner to take seventh shot

Really.

Tampa’s adult entertainment king is running for city council once again.  This will be Joe Redner’s seventh attempt at being elected to your local goverment.  He has never won.

In his most recent run for county commission, the slogan was

  • “You may not want me, but you need me.”

Let’s just say that the slogan did not work as well as Joe had hoped it would.  I wonder if he could have come up with something a bit more successful.  There are lots of choices, and plenty of angles he could use.  He’s a businessman, a staunch supporter of the First Amendment, and with this being his 7th run, he’s quite persistent.  With those things in mind, we’ll offer up a couple alternative campaign slogans for Joe:

“Oh, What the Hell!”

“If you elect me, I’ll quit running”

“No Cover for Couples”

“Ohhhh… It’s Supervisor of ELECTions”

“2007:  miles away from 2001″

“Always six feet from the public trough”

“You may not need me, but your out-of-town business associates probably think I’m pretty cool.”

“Watching your tax money - one dollar at a time”

“Tampa’s Growin’ – I’m right there!”

“Joe Redner: ‘83 ‘99 2000, ‘03 ‘04 ‘06 2007,

“Put me on the Council, I’m used to being surrounded by Boobs.”

“Hookin’ up Tampa”

“Joe Redner – Public Servicing is in my veins”

“Tampa Needs a Happy Ending”

“You may not want me, but you don’t like me either.”

That last one probably won’t work.

“At least I’m upfront about being a dirty politician.” Or maybe “I’ll work hard for you, Tampa! Heheh hard.”

Not sure what you mean that it didn’t work.

Did you see the actual returns of the most recent election where Redner went up against one of the most well-known county commissioners, and still had more than 40 percent of the vote?

Name me someone who would’ve done better against Jim Norman who is not a name.

Hey M — he also won most of the precincts in the city. Since this is a city wide position that is flooded with candidates, Joe has an amazing opportunity to win here.

M sounds like he’s flacking for Redner. Saying he got 40% of the vote is like the Bucs kicking a field goal at the end of a game to avoid a shutout. Jim Norman is still a commish, Mr. Mons is unelectable. No moral victories in football or politics.

Oh please, I could care less who wins, to be honest. I didn’t vote for either.

But I hate to say it, 40 percent is still not bad, and while there is room to improvement, it’s not like he’s pulling in 20 percent or 15 percent, or even seeing a decline in people voting for him. In fact, it’s going up, and that alone would even get me to say that it’s not foolhardy to keep going, to keep building.
