gas prices slashed
January 16, 1936 – A gasoline price war hits Tampa, as independent station owners vote unanimously for a 21-cent price in protest against the refineries reduction of 1 ½ cents of their profit margin. Gasoline dipped as low as 19 cents per gallon (or $2.56 per gallon in today’s dollars) during a 24-hour price slashing period.
