a game of chicken
St. Pete cops slice up homeless tents, inviting national outrage.
Tampa cops arrest a rape victim, inviting national outrage.
This one-upsmanship scares me. I think they ought to settle it with a game of chicken on the Howard Franklin, and we’ll hope no one flinches.
Wayne Garcia has a real good bit on the difference between the way both cities, the mayors, and your daily papers reacted to the horrible f*ckups.

I think St. Pete is actually ahead — remember when the two St Pete cops charged into the car rental office and roughed up the two employees in a mistaken drug sting? Cuffed them, ground their faces into the carpet, then hi-fived each other, before finding out they were wrong. All captured by the security camera.
I’m a Gold Shield Foundation donor and I usually stand up for cops because they have really wretched jobs, but at times like this, it’s hard to be proud of law enforcement.

Cops aren’t bad people. They’re just poorly trained, managed and paid.

Might want to check your facts, the people who “charged into the car rental office and roughed up the two employees in a mistaken drug sting” were actually from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Also they weren’t employees of the business. Nice try with the association though. http://www.sptimes.com/2007/01/11/Southpinellas/County_to_pay_for_bus.shtml
