marching toward madness
Introducing a new gimmick here at the Sticks, where we take a weekly snapshot of the Florida collegiate basketball collective. Keep in mind that this is a new gimmick so any suggestions, especially a better, less lame name, would be appreciated.
USF: beat #21 Notre Dame, lost to #15 Marquette
A roller coaster week for the Bulls who lost to Marquette on a last second lay up, but followed it up with the biggest win of the season so far, upsetting the Golden Domers 69-63. Senior forward, Big East Player of the Week, and human pogo stick McHugh Mattis had career highs in points (23) and rebounds (16) against Notre Dame.
Up Next: At St Johns (Wed, 7:30), at Louisville (Sat, 3:00)
FSU: beat Maryland, #8 Duke
If it was a big week for USF, it was a historic week for the Seminoles who notched their first victory ever at Duke. FSU swingman Al Thornton scored 21 points en route to crashing JJ Reddick’s jersey retirement party.
Up Next: at #25 Clemson (Wed, 7:30), vs BC (Sun, 3:00)
UF: beat #24 Vandy, Tenn
The Gators exact their revenge on a Volunteers team that beat them twice last season, spanking Tennessee 94-78. More importantly, Corey Brewer will live to play another day after a close call which left Brewer writhering on the floor in pain.
Up Next: at Georgia (Wed, 7:30), at Kentucky (Sat, 9:00)
Miami: lost to #3 UNC, UVA
Maybe they were distracted by all the Super Bowl festivities or simply trying to avoid getting choked by Matt Geiger but the Hurricanes slip even farther down the ACC rankings.
Up Next: vs BC (Wed, 7:00), vs NC State (Sat, 4:00)
