we got us a shooter

We want to give you stuff. Lots of stuff. Plus we want to show you some of the hidden things in and around Tampa Bay. So we are going to attempt to combine the two.

First we needed to get some tickets to stuff. With our friends at the Jobsite Theater, and Mr. Bill’s ability to garner stuff to events now and again, that part is done. We can’t promise something every single week, but we are gonna try.

With that done, we also wanted to find a good photographer. And then coincidentally, Jason found Jonathon. So we asked Jonathon if he wanted to show off his photos on Tampa’s best website. You know what’s next:

Jonathon lives and works in the Bay Area, typically with camera in hand. While his day job involves computers and, what can only be described as “other duties as assigned,” he enjoys just about all types of photography, as well as an obsessive road cycling habit. He maintains a flickr site, where a fair amount of his work is shown. Although not a writer of news or editorial copy, Jonathon hopes to bring the feeling of the subject to our readers one photo at a time – maybe two, if they’re good.

If think you know Tampa inside and out, I’ll be posting a photo every week of something in Tampa and the surrounding area. The question will typically be “Where is this?,” but if I feel the answer may be too easy, we’ll be looking for some detail (see the upcoming post for example). Of the readers who submit the correct answer, one will be chosen to receive a couple of tickets to an area event on that weekend.

Heh. A cool dude with a cool camera and a cool eye, Jonathon has also offered to shoot for any of our contributors, too. Go take a look at all his photos on flickr, and if you want to hire him to shoot something for you, then fire off a missive!

Welcome to Sticks of Fire, Jonathon!

Oh, and the next contest will publish at 10am tomorrow.

You would think I could find a better photo of myself. Even considering that, I’m happy to be part of this site.

I’ll prolly never make one accurate guess ever, but hello and welcome all the same. :)

Hi Jonathon, I got a reply from the secretary with the City that said she had forwarded our piece to the Mayor. She said I was the second person that had sent it to her. On reflection maybe I should have clarified my “I have no idea if she is a good mayor” bit.
