creative loafing starting new blog network
The Blurbex hits just keep coming.
When blogs link to each other, some send trackbacks, letting us know when there is a new voice added to an existing conversation. Today we received a bunch of these trackbacks from Blurbex. The data came from old posts (of theirs and ours), but on a new website. So we went to go check it out.
It looks like Creative Loafing will be transferring all their blogs to WordPress MU. The WordPress software eases the ability to create a blog. The MU (multiple user) part allows hundreds of blogs to be hosted under one umbrella. Of course the Loaf only has a handful of blogs themselves, so who’s gonna fill the other 95 percent of ‘em? You are, of course.
They are gonna give away blogs to anyone who wants ‘em. Of course they will likely eventually have advertising on them, too. But that didn’t stop me from claiming my stake.
Go visit our new website at blogs.creativeloafing.com/sticksoffire/ I couldn’t think of a good name, so for now it will be called Blog-A-Ma-Tizz.
Update 5:58pm: In comments below, Wayne Garcia denies the network plan. Offline he tells me all CL-branded blogs are being brought under one roof - no blogs for all. Therefore, Blog-a-ma-tizz has been suspended. All the links, including the Creative Loafing branded signup page as well as the trackbacks that they created now redirect directly to a WordPress login page. I suppose it was not yet ready for the world to see. Sorry to cause such a fuss over there…

Sorry to disappoint, but we’re not starting a new free blog network (although I’m not sure that is a bad idea). Just shifting our blogs in-house eventually instead of putting them on TypePad where they live now.
