I apologize that this post has nothing to do with Largo, but there are a wealth of blogs covering local sports on these here ebays. Some you may be familiar with, some you may not and with the exception of this really good Bucs blog I plan on sharing as many of them with y’all as often as possible. And if you have any suggestions for blogs you would like to see in this space leave ‘em in the comments.

  • One of my favorite sites, Rays Index takes the St Pete Times to task for their sponsorship of the Devil Rays, pointing out that the Times has abandoned any sense of neutrality by entering into a business relationship with the local baseball team. In addition, RI is all over spring training and all the love flying arond the outfield.
  • BoltsMag, who is money and didn’t even know it, gives us a round up of the hockey trade deadline. Which leads to the next logical question, who knew hockey had a trade deadline?
  • BucShots (the Tribune version) throws a monkey wrench in all the Calvin Johnson-mania by sharing a glowing predraft analysis of another receiver everyone thought was a no miss pick….Charles Rogers. And if that name doesn’t sound familiar it may be because Rogers is currently working behind the counter at a burger butt.
  • The grandaddy of DRays blogs, DRays Bay, is extensively covering spring training as well, and puts the Rays to shame for their final lackluster performance in a intra-squad game. The Rays lead off their first spring training game Friday against the Yankees.

Yeah, Boltsmag is more money than I knew. I’m featured on Sports Illustrated’s Tampa Bay Lightning team profile AND I got linked to from NHL.com yesterday. Tres cool, no?

Just so you know, since it seems apparent that the Bucs are going to take Calvin Johnson, the guy is no bust. He’s big, fast, judges the ball very well, and is said to be a good teammate.

The biggest reasons 1st round receivers bust are 1) work ethic (aka attitude) and 2) quickness. Johnson has both. He’s a heck of a blocker too. The guy really does it all.

I’m no Rays fan, but I do follow the AL East (O’s lifer) and I really like Ray’s Index. Good baseball mojo.

i’m with ya on that sentiment oiler, calvin’s work ethic should guarantee he is worth the pick. he would have received more praise in college if he had anyone else but reggie ball as his quarterback

and john, don’t forget us littles when you’re rich and famous

  5. John Says:
