stanton interview
David Warner of Creative Loafing has a fantastic Q&A with fired Largo City Manager Steve Stanton. I encourage you to read Steve Stanton’s Story: “I can’t walk away, it’s not in my nature”: An interview with Largo’s suddenly famous transsexual city manager.
Accompanying the piece in the print edition is a sidebar compiled by Wayne Garcia: Eight reasons Largo should be ashamed. You’ve already read that one on this website and others.

The often less than tolerant Bill Keller of Live Prayer (live@1am channel 44) fame was talking about that article last night. Instead of having people call in prayer requests, he had people call into to say whether they agreed with Largo or not. Overwhelmingly people agreed with the firing. Only a few people made valid points (in my opinion.)
It was the Wed. Mar. 7th show if you want to see it in the archives.
What got to me the most was his mini-rant on how he takes a stand and The Weekly Planet takes a stand - but the major news channels don’t. What the hell? I thought reporting news was supposed to be rather neutral - not about taking one side or the other. Heh.

1st off I thought the articles by Wayne was very informative, and really good. Kudos all the way.
2nd of all Bill Kellers Live Prayer…folks what do you expect. Of course the majority of people calling in are going to say they agree with Bill over Steves call in show. Its catered to the Christian population.
Finally, the media only is after one thing ratings, and money and will only report what they feel their viewers want to hear. Once again kudos to Wayne Garcia, and Weekly Planet for having the guts to take a stand.

Thanks for the info on the Q&A from Creative Loafing. This case really makes me mad. Daniel Ruth from the Tampa Tribune and 970 WFLA wrote a good article regarding this case. I have more info on my blog.
