pizza upsets
For those of you that are not into the NCAA Basketball Tournament, Creative Loafing offers an alternative competition. In order to find the best pizza in the bay area, they have come up with The PZZA Tournament of Slices. They have chosen and (and seeded!) 64 pizza joints in the bay area, and over the next few weeks will narrow it down to the Sweet Sixteen Slices, Elite Ate, and Final Four.
Of course, they have a bracket, too. It works just like your office pool, so go fill out the bracket, and if your guesses match those of Creative Loafing, you could win a $100 gift certificate from the tournament winner.
Matt has checked out a couple pizza joints, including 12th seeded Cappy’s in Palma Ceia and #1 seed Gourmet Pizza Company in Soho. My personal favorite is Babe’s Pizza, which is not included in the tournament. Of those that ARE in the CL tourney, I like #2 seed Eddie and Sam’s downtown, and sixth seed New York, New York pizza in Ybor City. I used to love the Ybor Pizza and Subs pizza, but it’s not as tasty as before they were bulldozed out of Ybor City. Ybor Pizza is a 16 seed.
OK… enough of that - go fill out the bracket, and share with us your champion.

Cesare’s in South Tampa. Ate quite a few slices from there during my high school years while working at the Publix on Dale and Neptune. Haven’t been to the new location over by Plant (if it’s still there even…) yet.

As soon as new world starts taking credit cards and stops turning the AC off in the summer at 1AM, they can be officially accredited with serving pizza.

Paying with cash is interest free. And you can get a pizza to go.
