times endorses redner
The St. Pete Times endorses Joe Redner for Tampa City Council, but don’t want anyone to know. In the editorial, they berate Redner with backhanded compliments, and published the endorsement on a Saturday.
I don’t blame them.
Redner is connected to the adult industry that many people find offensive, if not downright immoral. And let’s face it. Of all the shady businesses to own, a strip club is among the very darkest. The nature of the business brings out all sorts of drunks, drug addicts and just uneasy people.
Those of us who subscribe to the “live and let live” policy would like to envision the girls using their natural talents to pay for college. And yes - the business is legal. But the truth is that many of them get hooked on the money, drinks, and drugs and end up getting physically abused by some cockroach.
But the local paper HAS to recommend a candidate. And Redner’s opponent is just not any great shakes, either. Again, the Times:
The incumbent, Gwendolyn Miller, has accomplished virtually nothing in 12 years as a council member.
She is continuing that trend during this campaign, doing nothing to distinguish herself from Redner.
But in the choice between bad taste or no taste at all, the Tribune chooses Miller, saying Redner would turn the city into a circus.

Ronda Storms turned the city into a circus and she was a COUNTY commissioner, not a city commissioner.
That being said, when was the last time the city commission had some form of personality and flavor besides vanillia?

Literally reminds me of a “South Park” episode where they held the Douche vs. Turd election. Which one’s which in this race? Guess I’ll vote in the runoff if I have time.

I copyed and pasted what was said in the Tampa Tribune and decided to add my own harsh responses on those blind sighted reporters.
“To Keep Circus Off City Council Pick Miller, Margarella For Tampa

Early voting in runoff elections for two Tampa City Council seats begins today - Election Day is March 27 - and if voters don’t take care, they could end up with a council dominated by gadfly theatrics.”
Hey boys and girls what the Trib Staff forgot to do is inform readers of the gadfly theatrics of the two newly elected circus clowns The bigoted Tom Scott, and Mr. Lets do the Time warp again Charles Miranda. Tommy boy believes in voting with the majority when it comes to banning Gay Pride. Charly boy votes against anything, and everything that has to do with progress.
“Alas, barely 15 percent of registered voters participated in the March 6 general election, so it’s likely the turnout for the runoff will be puny.”
Well with that kind of attitude why do readers need to read the Tampa Tribune in the first place. Maybe the Tribune feels that no one reads their puny journalistic style in the first place, so why say anything positive.
“District 1
In this citywide race, incumbent Gwen Miller faces Joe Redner, the flamboyant millionaire strip club owner. Miller has served on council for 12 years, two terms representing east Tampa and one term representing all city neighborhoods. Miller rarely takes a lead on an issue, but she’s done a respectable job and her voting record is solid.”
Does the Tribune list her accomplishments besides saying she has done a respectable job, and has a solid voting record? By the way it would be very interesting if the the Trib was to list the demographics of who her voting constitunts that voted for her in the past.
“She doesn’t grandstand, is concerned about the welfare of all neighborhoods and has the courage to take controversial stands, such as a new stormwater fee, that best serve the city’s long-term interests.”
Concerned about the welfare of all neighborhoods, and stormwater fees???
First off I dare anyone to walk down 22nd st between Busch, and Columbus during 3am on Saturday night and tell me you feel safe walking alone at night since Gwen Miller has been in City Council. And stormwater fees….Please! Everytime it rains in Tampa, or a hurricane hits South Tampa is always building an ark.
“Redner is in his seventh race for public office and speaks knowledgeably about the need for mass transit, protecting the environment and cutting property taxes. But it is impossible to ignore his past or his enterprise, especially when he pulls such a sleazy stunt as offering free admission to his strip club for anyone who presents an “I voted” sticker.”
Well Trib boys what would you suggest? Come on were waiting….
“Redner has sued the city numerous times, mostly about its restrictions on adult businesses. Two years ago, he declared he was gay so that he could sue the county for not recognizing gay pride events. One can only imagine the kind of circus Redner would create on the council.”
Well if you did not have people like Tom Scott, Charles Miranda, Ronda Storms, Jim Norman, Ken Hagan, Shaun Harrison, Brian Blair, and all those religious hypocrits backing them up pushing their crazy moral values down everyones throats maybe there would of not been all the lawsuits, and all the times Joe has run.
“In District 1, the Tribune endorses Gwen Miller.”
So how much did Gwen buy you for in order for her to get your endorsement?

Truth of the matter is that if Redner can successfully run a biz in Hillsborough County and fend off Rhonda for years while making a profit, the guy has to have enough brains to do something good with the city council.

To Brandon Pride:
You are aware that editorials are not written by reporters, “blind sighted” or otherwise, right?
