The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center has contacted a few bloggers, offering tickets in the hopes of getting the word out for various performances. I think it’s smart marketing. We here in the sticks embrace the arts, and have gladly accepted some tickets to opening night of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. It sounds like a really funny premise:

In the Tony-Award winning new musical comedy THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser. SPELLING BEE has been hailed by the Wall Street Journal as “perfect in every possible way – that rarity of rarities, a super-smart musical that is also a bona fide crowd pleaser.” This tuneful, offbeat and at times heartwarming show offers audience members the opportunity (strictly voluntary) to become part of the action as on-stage spellers. The New York Times calls SPELLING BEE, “irresistible, riotously funny and remarkably ingenious – gold stars all around.” http://www.spellingbeethemusical.com/tour/

It sounds so good, we’re gonna give away a pair of tickets to opening night. Keep your eye out for a contest tomorrow morning for a pair of tickets to the play. And mark your calendars now for Sticks of Fire Night at Jobsite Theater. We’ll be attending the April 1 performance of locally written the March of the Kitefliers. We’ll have more to say about that next week. For now, just look for the Spelling Bee play contest tomorrow, or go buy tickets now! Support the Arts!
