opening day: your rays preview in 60 seconds

It’s Game 1 of 162 and anything is still possible for the Rays. So with sixty minutes before gametime, and unlimited possibilities (World Series here we come!) let’s preview the 2007 Rays in 60 seconds….

  • Carl Crawford will win the MVP (or so says Baseball Prospectus). Crawford has improved his batting average, home runs and OPS every season.
  • The Rays will have the best outfield in baseball. Crawford, Rocco Baldelli and Delmon Young could be the most productive and dangerous outfield in MLB.
  • Scott Kazmir (Kid K) could be the best pitcher in the AL, and needs just 14 wins to become the Rays all time wins leader.
  • New ownership is finally starting to get “it”. The new Rays braintrust is committed to an outside-the-box line of thinking which includes actually reaching out to fans.
  • The bullpen is miserable. Not everything is sunny for the Rays, so expect a few games to be lost in the middle innings.

(Big tip of the hat to Rays Index, DRays Bay and Devil Rays Universe for helping to prepare this preview.)

I always really like the pictures you pick. They’re kinda campy and sexy and cheesy all in one - Tommy, you should encourage more pics from everybody.

I’ll go along with that! Gotta be some incentive to keep root-root-rooting for the Rays to avoid a full decade of mediocrity. Really fellas, is a .500 season too much to ask?

“so expect a few games to be los tin the middle innings”

    Understatement of the century
