<description>It is good to learn what Tampa is doing. I hope we can borrow a few good ideas. St. Pete has a big cleanup on Sat. May 19th. Our city is looking at helping residents clean Bartlett Park while learning better methods to keep all neighborhoods clean. The city will be giving a lot of support to residents and the Council of Neighborhood Associations is asking all of its member associations to pitch in.
At the end of the day all the streets will be swept. Then the tough part is keeping it clean.

Our streets drain into Bayboro Harbor. After a good rain this beautiful harbor is covered with floating garbage. The two largest drainage basins in the city drain in this body of water so a lot of litter and pollution is swept this way. But our stormwater is not treated as it heads toward the bay.
On the West end of town our trash is washed into Clam Bayou in Gulfport. Some blame the boaters but we need to stop pollution coming from our streets.

Tax reform is in the news. How come litter gets a tax break in Florida? Many states use a tax or deposit on drink containers to keep beer bottles out of landfills and off our streets. It works. Market based solutions reduce pollution.

Here is a web site with some more info:
