The 16th Annual Silver Spoons and Sandcastles event to benefit the Mayor’s Beautification Program was loaded with hundreds of donated items for auction, plenty of great food, and wonderful drinks of all types. Rum mojiotos, special beers, Kahlua drinks and more awaited your selection. The auction items included jewelry , concert tickets, dinners, and special trips. Paintings, autographed jersey’s, plants, photography, use of an RV or a townhouse in Montana. What a great collection of auction items with all the proceeds going to support City projects and programs. Music and more. Everything and everyone was there!

Except the Mayor.

Listed in the program as the Host of the Event, Mayor Iorio failed to appear. City staff members apparently had been tipped off of her plans not to attend. When we asked what happened, the only answer we got was: she had been working late.

One staffer indicated that the city budget information received earlier in the day led to the schedule change. With the significant changes that might be ahead with a special session of the Florida legislature to look at property taxes, Mayor Iorio’s budget could be altered dramatically. While those of us at the Cruise Ship Terminal event were experiencing a Tropical Night, it sounds like your Mayor was heading for a Sleepless Night.
