For 17 years, the Wine Exchange has been in Hyde Park Village. With all of the changes of construction plans, it appears that they are about to close their doors with little or no notice. We feel for the owners and employees as the new owners of the Hyde Park Village continue to figure out what they are doing.

Writing for GO: AirTran Airways Inflight Magazine, Nancy Davidson says Charlie’s Wine Bar in SoHo is one of her 20 national favorite wine bars in the nation. Of course, Charlie’s is not the only nationally recognized wine cellar in the neighborhood. I’m sure you’ve heard all about Bern’s wine cellar - it’s the biggest restaurant wine cellar in the world.

I heard through the grapevine that the owners of the Wine Exchange don’t have any immediate plans for a new location and that their last day will be next week sometime (May 16-17). As I mentioned, that’s from the grapevine, so I can’t vouch for the accuracy of it.

The Wine Exchange had an art show and a “farewell reception” this past Wednesday night, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to go. I hate to see them leave. Their cheesy chicken pizza is to die for.

I was at their art event on Wednesday and they had a good turnout. Will have photos and an article and more on Monday at http://www.sohotampa.com

the trib and sptimes both reported it will close. too bad. the atmosphere was very cool for drinking and schmoozing, though i was never a huge fan of the food which was adequate, at best. i hope they resurrect, and i hope even more that hyde park village finds a decent tenant for the former cactus club spot.

The wine exchange will be missed. traci and I went on our first date there :)

I feel for any retailers, restaurants etc left in Hyde Park Village as it goes thru what looks like a multi-year transition. It ain’t gonna be easy, especially when they seemed to be banking at least partly on condo dev.
