philippe park: great shady waterfront
blogpaulWow, I finally got organized enough to write this post that I have been wanting to write for a week!
Last weekend I took the kids to a park I had never been to and want to let you know about it. I live right down the road from this place and have never even realized that this 122 acre park was even there.
It is called Philippe Park and located in in Pinellas County just north of Safety Harbor in Oldsmar. There are not a lot of websites that tell us much about it, in fact, I only found one tiny piece on the Pinellas county website that was barely worth linking. I did find a nice St. Pete Times write-up about the onsite Indian burial mound written about a year ago.
Now I am not much of a hiker (at least I am not with a 2 and 6 year old) but I am told that there is a multi-use trail that connects Philippe Park with Cooper’s Bayou Park in Clearwater… just DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS!
You can host a gathering in one of their pavilions with a waterfront setting (but be sure and call and reserve them because they are often full), let the children play in the playground and still stay cool in the summer because of the breeze off the water and the shade overhead.
The playgrounds are shaded with large oak trees and is set right on the water, and I mean RIGHT on the water. After playing for a good while and having a picnic lunch, we all went down and took some pictures by the water. It was a really comfortable afternoon for the parents and the kids, we were all full and tired when we left, and best of all, I did not even hear any crying that we were leaving!

If you are willing to put up with the “small” gator there is a nice sidewalk that circles the pond at Cooper’s Bayou.

Beautiful park, hilly, good peaceful energy there.
