Whooo Boy. It. is. getting. hot. Sweaty days, rainy afternoons and muggy nights. It’s either miserable or terribly sexy, depending on your mindset. Personally, I don’t mind summer, all the sweaty bodies always remind me of Jack Kerouac’s descriptions of Louisiana nights. So, if the onslaught of summer hasn’t scared you into your air conditioned house ’til November, there are things to do this weekend.

Friday, Saddle Creek recording artists, Two Gallants, are opening up for Les Claypool at Jannus Landing. I fully intend to be present for Two Gallants, but I can guarantee that I’ll be some 10 blocks away, bellied up to the bar at Steve’s Tavern by the time Claypool’s set starts. Honestly, I’m just not a fan of his music. Two Gallants, on the other hand, they are gonna rock the place.

Saturday….oh, no! the robots are attacking!!!!

The “Robot Invasion” Digital Art Show starts this Saturday at Blackout Creations in St. Pete.

This exhibit showcases robot - themed or robot - inspired artwork by 20+ local, national and international digital illustrators and designers, including Rob Schwager, Julie West, Hydro74, Horse Bites Design, Richard McCaig, Snakebite, Kenny Lindstrom, Steve Firchow and many more.

No cover, all ages welcome, free drinks (with proper ID) and free desserts. Music by DJ Muggles and AE.

Okay. I think that speaks for itself….however, I’ll paraphrase for the ADD and/or stupid here: Saturday. Downtown St. Pete. Robots. Free Adult Beverages. Again. Robots. Free. Adult. Beverages.

Then we finally get a Soprano free Sunday. I never watched the Sopranos, but it has been impossible to escape the Sopranos talk this week. Hell, ESPN has even been on their nuts this week. When I read how it ended it reminded me of Pillars of the Earth. One of the main characters dies about halfway through the book with no fanfare. He falls and “everything went black” and that was it…funeral and the story had a new main character. Well, really, the main character was the church they were building, but whatever. The ending of the Sopranos was “and everything went black” so my admittedly ignorant take is that someone in the diner killed Tony.

Then comes Wednesday, folks. A ninebullets.net guaranteed great show is coming to The Orpheum. You have plenty of warning. Make like me and take Thursday morning off from work. Why? Because Those Legendary Shack*Shakers are coming to town! Snot rockets will be launched, pubes will be thrown, beers will be drank and howdy’s will get doodied. You may hate the music but you’ll love the show and I guarantee it. Jello Biafra called the good Colonel J.D. Wilkes “the last great rock and roll front man” and I ain’t yet to see someone prove him wrong. Imagine Iggy Pop fronting Southern Culture on the Skids….the southern gothic, rock and roll version of the Sex Pistols but with more talent, and you are getting there….you aren’t quite there, but you are getting there. Look. LSS have to be seen to truly be understood. Come. You will like, I promise.
