assigned to 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; killed July 29 while conducting combat operations in Rawah, Iraq. Also killed was Lance Cpl. Anthony E. Butterfield.

Chris Williams was the oldest of four children of Jack and Maria Elisa Williams. The couple met in the Philippines, where Jack was stationed in the Navy… When he retired from the Navy in 1994 after 22 years, the family moved to Winter Haven… Chris entered Lake Region High School as a sophomore when the new school opened, his father said… He played a year of football and set early weight-lifting records at the school… “He wasn’t very tall, but he sure thought he was,” the elder Williams said. “He was into bungee jumping and rode motorcycles.”
