Because obviously, loud music makes people want to do bad, bad things.

St. Pete Times Opinion: Crackdown needed on Ybor City clubs

The city is considering several moves, such as forcing clubs to close earlier than 3 a.m. That’s worth considering, but the benefit seems limited. What’s to stop the party from moving off Seventh Avenue, or for the problems to kick in earlier than midnight, the typical start time the police see now? The city needs to seriously toughen the penalties for clubs that break the noise ordinance.

You know, because cops are very effective at harassing folks for other similar, horrible misdeeds.

What is this, 1955?

Welcome to the City of the Arts.

This has nothing to do with loud music. The city is cracking down on the irresponsible club owners who don’t police their patrons and have an inordinate amount of crime. (See your earlier post “Welcome to Ybor City”).
Granted, Dingfelder is absolutely clueless. Closing the clubs earlier is not the answer. Why would all the clubs be impacted when only 1 or 2 are the ones that are causing the problems. People in Ybor want the violent crime (read murders, etc) in our neighborhood solved, but not at the expense of the nighlife.

no one in tampa city government or the sptimes editorial dept has ever been to ybor after midnight. guaranteed. they are best ignored.

We are getting lost in Ybor. Noise started the problem, but the type of noise (ganster rap) has caused the type of violence we experince in Ybor. This is the type of NOISE we listen to @ 19th and 7th Ave. (Where most of the killing has taken place.) SPTIMES should keep watch of Baywalk–its in the earlier stages of Ybor six years ago.
