assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Sept. 24 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Anbar province, Iraq.

Martinez graduated from Miami Sunset Senior High School and had wanted to be a Marine since he was young.
