license to wed an annoying failure
Leave this loser at the altar.
License to Wed
(PG-13; 91 minutes)
The year’s only half over, and we’ve already seen the worst romantic comedy of ‘07. At least we hope nobody makes a dumber, duller, more annoying failure than “License to Wed,” a lame loser about an engaged couple and the creepy minister who seems determined to derail their marriage plans.
John Krasinski, from TV’s “The Office” (joined by three other “Office” players in the supporting cast), co-stars with Mandy Moore (a youthful veteran of worthless rom-coms) as the couple eager to have an old-fashioned wedding in the girl’s hometown church.
Enter Robin Williams as the pastor, who rules his congregation with an iron hand while pretending to be a faithful servant of Bible tradition. We don’t know what denomination this cleric represents, but it’s not very tolerant or considerate. By posing as a caring minister, he sets up an emotional obstacle course disguised as premarital counseling. If the couple fails the course, the wedding can’t be held in the family church.
Of course, the preacher’s antics make the couple’s life a living hell. He bugs their bedroom and tries to turn the girl’s family against her nice-guy suitor. The plot might remind you of “Anger Management,” only with worse acting and less effective jokes.
Every situation here seems forced and poorly timed. Williams has never been more irritating or less amusing, and that leaves the rest of the actors with little to do but stand around and wait, along with us, for the pain to subside.
This moldy turkey gets a D+.

It really is amazing how three extremely skilled actors can make such a horrid film.

This movie was beyond horrible. I can’t even look at john krasinski the same way anymore. What a stupid mistake for him to make this movie. Mandy Moore and him were so boring together and fake. Don’t even get me started on Robin ( loser ) William. I’ll be surprised if anyone will goes to see this after word of mouth gets around.

“(Robin) Williams has never been more irritating”
That’s really hard to imagine, but it’s not worth $10 for me to see it for myself so thanks for the review.

Everyone associated with this so called film will come out a loser. JK didn’t make the emmy cut but Robin Williams couldn’t care less. I think he feels the joke is on everyone who lets him continue his long running sick joke. He doesn’t care who he takes down with him. I left before it was over.
