The problem with an Al Lang field location is that a Major League ballpark of 30,000+ cannot be built on the Al Lang Field footprint. They just upgraded the Theater next door so it's not like the city of St. Pete would be inclined to demolish that in favor of a ballpark.

That's not crappign on the idea of a St. Pete Waterfront location, it's just the implausibility of a Al Lang Field location. You couldn't fit the ballpark, concourses and the like there.

Now, if someone proposed Al Whitted Airport as a location....

putting it anywhere but downtown tampa, in channelside or along the river, would be a tragic mistake. not next to raymond james, please.

It's cool to see the Trib playing SimCity on its website. They did a nice job. I like the Al Lang location. Downtown Tampa, along the river, would be cool. too.

While the Trib is at it, it should come up with a SimTeam, a SimFrontOffice, a SimOwner and SimFans for this poorly simulated MLB team called the Devil Rays.

Discounting the fact that the Rays' management hasn't earned the opportunity to bilk the citizenry for another venue...

I've championed the "Toytown" area for years when talking about the Rays and their dismal attendance. It's both near water and near Tampa. Two positives in my view.
