stay east, young man

The National Hockey League released the schedules for all 30 franchises yesterday and the Tampa Bay Lightning (excuse me for heading this off at the pass — yes, Ski and others, Tampa still has a hockey team ;) ) have one of the lightest travel schedules in team history.

Of course, the team has to play 41 road dates and 41 home dates, but they only head west of the Mississippi River (a stone throw west: St. Louis, Missouri) once during the course of the scheduled 2007-2008 season and only travels outside the eastern time zone twice during the season as well.

The best part of the year is coming up: College and pro football and the nhl are starting up soon. Baseball will totally disappear until the world series in October, when everyone will say “Oh yeah, baseball is still going on, I just forgot (didn’t care)!”
