ignoring bad news

How is it that Floridians chief complaint one year ago has not been addressed properly, yet the governor manages to have a strong approval rating?

One year ago, I couldn’t walk a block without hearing someone complaining about the cost of homeowners insurance and dissatisfaction with the entire industry. Both local dailies ran special reports using the word “CRISIS.” And Candidate Chuckie promised to do something about it. Six months later, after demanding state lawmakers lower rates, and a special session on insurance, Governor Chuckie made a big announcement that your rates would drop almost 24%. Within a few weeks, we found out that statement was a big steaming pile of crap.

Since then, we have heard nothing about the subject. Unless you count the insurance companies asking for higher rates. And insurers continue dropping Florida policies. Some have said we may be witnessing the “breakdown of the nation’s insurance model.” But not a word from Charlie Boy, except a new tool from the State that doesn’t work.

Yet 73% approve of the job that Crist is doing. While 72% note that insurance rates have not been lowered. Newspapers can blare that Crist “earns” high marks.

WTF?

By the way, Tom Zucco and Jennifer Liberto keep adding to the
St. Pete Times special report on insurance crisis
, while over at TBO’s insurance special report, stories have disappeared.

    Where’s the legislature blame?

Seriously, they dropped the issue after the special session in January and focused on base-friendly issues like limiting petitions and more NRA-friendly gun laws.

Property taxes weren’t dealt with until a special session and some of the proposals that earned too much time being discussed (with thanks to the makeup of the legislature at current) was abolishing property tax and changing the state sales tax to one of (if not the) highest in the nation.

A governor can only go as far as his legislature. John Ellis Bush got far because the ideology of “Screw the people, promote the business” was applauded in the legislature. Now Crist has one view and the lawmakers have another…
