1010am: all new york all the time
CBS-owned sports radio 1010 The Beast (aka WQYK-AM) recently added a new radio show to their lineup. In July, Mike & the Mad Dog began airing here from 3 to 6pm on weekday afternoons.
Mike & Mad Dog broadcast out of WFAN in New York, so they will fit right in with 1010’s “All New York all the time” line-up, including Tom Krasniqi, who lives in Tampa Bay, but born in Bronx, NY and raised in NYC. He’s a huge Mets fan and a Jets fanatic… and most broadcasts of New York Yankee games.
The only thing this station has going for it is the wonderful SportChix. On from noon-3pm - The Sport Chix are from the area, and are by far the most entertaining piece of The Beast. We love the Sport Chix.
But what about all this New York on a local station? If you listen to the Chix, it seems that local sports fans don’t like it very much. But there’s good news, too. Since M&MD have been simulcasting to Tampa, they feel that they should discuss the Bucs and the Devil Rays, so New York sports fans are not real thrilled about it, either.

Mad Dog graduated from Rollins so technically it’s local. Well maybe more Orlando.
SportChix would be better if we could look at ‘em, but it’s radio so we can’t.

Regardless of anyone attending a Florida college, the sports radio fans from the Tri-State area and beyond (as 660 WFAN is a 50,000 watt station) who listen for New York sports talk cannot be happy.

1010 has always been simulacast station. I say bring back “Don & Mike” in the afternoon drive. I don’t listen to anymore since they went all New York and dropped Al Kleck’s show. For sports minus the Ass that is on from noon-3 p.m., 620 WDAE is great!

I used to listen on my way home from work, but can’t anymore because who cares about New York? I want Bucs and Lightening news. That idiot on the other station is not an alternative. It’s sad.
