Army Sgt. William R. Howdeshell
tommy37, of Norfolk, Va.;
assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.; died July 26 in Saqlawiyah, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Also killed were Spc. Charles E. Bilbrey Jr. and Spc. Jaime Rodriguez Jr.
Of all the things she could say about her husband - his love for his country, the way he always wrestled with his son or how he had the wittiest comebacks - Kimberly Howdeshell most wanted the world to know this: “He was doing what he wanted. He loved his job and he died doing it,” she said. “I’m extremely proud of what he’s done.”
In June, home on leave, he moved his family from Fort Stewart, Ga., to Pinellas County to be closer to his parents and his brother.
