no space for myspace at temple terrace library
Alan Snel | Bike Stories: You Can’t Read This Site In The Temple Terrace Library
…[the library director said] access to myspace.com, chat rooms and blogger.com-related sites were attracting local gangbangers who were fighting in the library and causing disturbances (two required visits from the local police). The library director told me about the nearby “projects,” and that a wrong “element” was visiting the library…
Because libraries (and especially the Temple Terrace Library) are only for people with the “right” element.

Make him PROVE it. They make it appear that there is trouble but it’s just so they can start the mind-policing.
It’s their own fault that they turned perfectly acceptable, large family apartments into projects.
I should also mention that like WAY TOO MANY libraries, the Fire Dept is right there, too. Used to live a few blocks away. TT kinda sucks. And, I understand it’s gotten worse. (MUCH WORSE)
They only block it at the ‘bad element’ places, eh??
I hope all my tattooed gang friends settle down. I was pretty down on my space until I saw the power. Just because Rupert owns it doesn’t mean we can’t make it cut for US.
It does.
This county is all about putting on a show. Look over here. There’s trouble. Need a law.
Meantime, the lawlessNESS in plain sight is protected.
Which is cool with me.
If these assholes would stay in their stations and stop stalking me and driving in front of me and sending their cop buddies out to stalk me around.
Freaks !

We all know it’s not MySpace that makes kids act out. It’s that rock n’ roll.

Temple Terrace is awesome, I love the place.
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:40 pm
there are “projects” in TT?
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:47 pm
I think the librarian is referring to Section 8 housing that exists on the outskirts of Tampa at the City of Temple Terrace city limits, not a big deal.
August 22nd, 2007 at 4:08 pm
I lived there and worked there for a pretty long time. It sucked the whole time. LOL !!
There are projects and section EIGHT ALL THROUGH TT. All the townhouses and many apt. dwellings and fifteen places I can think of off the top of my head by bullard pky and busch bv alone. Maybe twenty. Part of the plan. These used to be places for families of ANY type but they turned them section 8 under the guidance of the swell folks who are currently in PRISON. Or should be. Jerome Ryans, etc.. steve labrake…. If you’re living in TT and are not driving through section 8 housing everywhere you go then you are extremely creative!! Not that it matters, you understand (to me) People have to live somewhere. For Joe Stines to have his librarian CREATE this scenario around blogger, chatrooms and myspace is so f’ing ludicrous I’m going to make an appt with him so I can laugh right AT HIM.
Right. The gangbangers (LOL) love the library so much because it must remind them of what?? Debra lafave days at school.. So they take themselves in there and wreak havoc all around myspace, blogger and chat. BTW, chat is never allowed (to my knowledge) on any of the public network computers belonging to what’s-left-of-this-county.
Good TRY, stines !!! Maybe I’ll help those alleged gangbangers sue you for their civil rights to free speech.
It’s really what you need.
I guess he thought if he took the show to temple terrace no one would care.
I care, joe.
Tampa, stop trying to shut people UP and start acting RIGHT. Like humans.

“The gangbangers (LOL) love the library so much because it must remind them of what?? Debra lafave days at school..”
that is so wrong and so funny

Debra Lafave, Sami Al Arian, the Gerber Baby. Definitely a nice mix there.
I thought a library was for everyone. Apparently, it’s not for those who wish to use common social sites by people who probably don’t have access to a computer and Internet either way.
Whether it’s the wrong or right element, that “element” and/or their families pay taxes. And while that doesn’t allow them to be disruptive … I don’t think taking away social sites from the enjoyment of other patrons is the way to go.
That would be like the police department deciding that the best way to stop speeding is to ban cars from the roads.

Dearest tormented Voxy, there are no projects or section 8 housing in the City of Temple Terrace.
We are a city of only 6 square miles, the smallest municipality in Hillsborough County. Temple Terrace is the name of that city, not the entire Northwest Hillsborough County region.
Visit us sometime.
August 22nd, 2007 at 5:25 pm
Make sure you visit the library. Just make sure you read Sticks of Fire before you leave, because they won’t let you read it there.

its bad enough that libraries are full of piss stinking homeless using them to sleep. juvenile delinquents should not be welcome either. maybe censorhip isnt the right remedy. maybe more security? are you willing to pay for that as taxpayers, though? im not. so the tt librarian is in a difficult situation. btw, alan snell’s blog points out that the librian pointedly noted that she would throw out trouble makers of any color…

Am I missing something? The main page says there’s 13 comments, yet there are only 11 listed.
Maybe I forgot how to count?

dreaming, that’s lovely.

I just think that this librarian is a moron, and is in the wrong time. Libraries are for EVERYONE. The disruptive people should be stopped, yes. But that doesn’t mean trying to take an approach that could restrict those who AREN’T being disruptive.

I think that the librarian, the head librarian over all librarianists and EACH County Commissioner should take this test RIGHT NOW:
August 23rd, 2007 at 4:19 pm
The librarian has a tough job. No matter what someone will not be happy.
Maybe they should let the patrons of that library vote on it. Personally I think Temple Terrace is a great place to live although it is not nearly as nice as it was. They have always had record police response. Usually the people who complain the most about their rights being abused are also the ones that can’t stay out of trouble. Maybe they should just remove the computers from the library. I can remember when I could pump my gas and then go pay for it. I can’t do that anymore. Who is at fault for that? Not the gas station owner. Is he slandering me by assuming I will steal from him? Maybe I should sue him. I think the best solution is swift and harsh punishment for people who can not abide by our laws. Some people are just too stupid to stay out of trouble. Jail is full of people that always have an excuse year after year for why they got in trouble.

are you suggesting that other folks have the right to tell other equal folks what they can and cannot read?
Just checking.
Thank the masons for the current conditions. They brought all this with them in 1973.

Have communication from the Hillsborough County Library Public Cooperative, both written AND oral that my space is not blocked. YET there is NO access to same.
Thank you to those who called.
Apparently they are claiming some call and complain that they can never get to the computers in the library.
BULLSHIT !!
I use one for five or six hours a day at least twice a week. Never had to wait, never had any problem. Same in every library I go to.
Bout to start a revolution of sorts. Hope you’ll join in.

I’m sorry … what kind of schmuck reasoning is that? Comparing this to paying before you pump?
The only thing that happens when you pay before you pump is the sequence changes. Instead of pumping before you pay, you pay before you pump.
What would be TRULY analogous to this discussion is if you went to the gas station, and they wouldn’t let you pump any gas at all.

Just because more blacks come to the library now doesn’t make it worst or bad.
Everyone has tattoos and wear in style clothes.
I don’t know why when blacks show up people act like its so bad any other race its okay.
Just because black are around doesn’t mean their is section 8 or that they are on section 8. What projects?
We work we have money we pay mortgages and rent like everyone else and usually more because they want to keep us out.
I see a lot of students at the library that mostly it.

Hey Jenn…
No one said anything about blacks.
