here comes wal-mart (there goes sticks n stuff)
A quick mention for you furniture depleted value seekers out there. The Sticks and Stuff on Gandy in Tampa just east of Manhattan is having a store closing sale. The site is being sold off to Wal-Mart and for once nobody is arguing against the giant retailer. It is as if folks don’t like the big furniture warehouse/peep show theater that occupies the land now.
If you are thinking “Oh god South Tampa traffic!” remember that the construction on Manhattan is now completed and you can enjoy its four lane landscaped splendor on your way to pick out your “French Country” bedroom set made of balsa and foam.
If you are asking yourself “why is Jason being so down on Sticks N Stuff?” I am not, cheap furniture is awesome. In fact I once furnished a whole house for $499. I went to Sticks N Stuff.

Manhattan was expanded to try to mitigate the traffic coming up fro the new condos south of Gandy off Westshore - they are supposed to turn on Gandy and then again onto Manhattan for north commuters. Note - no one is talking abut expanding the left turn lane at Gandy.
Also recall the state has wanted to put an elevated roadway to handle the semi traffic on Gandy, something we neighbors opposed and voted down. They never gave up; the new landscaping is set up to accommodate pillars for example.
Walmart will want to ease semi traffic as they will be getting a lot of it - this is part of the slow march to making Gandy an elevated road and doing irredeemable harm to the neighborhood.

I like sticks and stuff. When your going to college and can’t afford the really expensive stuff but want a good looking living room it is the perfect store. I’m sad to see it go.
