how is your infrastructure?
Do you know of streetlights that don’t work? Got lots of potholes? Does your street flood? Do you see a bridge that looks too rusty? Pipes bursting all around you? Are people getting lost because of missing signs?
You have heard a lot news lately about Tampa Bay’s aging infrastructure. An early August report from Times staff writer Michael Van Sickler unveils some of the problems:
Engineers say we need to heed the groans of aging bridges, highways, electrical grids and water lines.
But your government agencies aren’t the best at letting us know where the high-problem areas are, and what they are doing to improve the situation. Again from the article:
…infrastructure needs are determined by a bewildering array of federal, state, county, city and special district governments, all of which keep separate and often incomplete maintenance records.
So I think we ought to help them out. You know what’s going on - at least in your neighborhood or along your travels. We here in the Sticks have created a map so you can pinpoint what is wrong, and where there may be trouble. Give us specifics, including dates. You can add photos, video, include your stories of frustration and bureaucracy (municipal infrastructure typically includes transportation, sewer, reservoir, potable water supply systems, police stations and local jails, etc.).
Go check out Tampa Bay’s Infrastructure Problems, and add your observations to the map.
