tommyConventional wisdom suggests that if you dug a hole straight down, you would end up in China. That is simply not true. If you dig straight down from Tampa Bay, you will end up in the Indian Ocean - hundreds of miles off the coast of Western Australia. In fact, should you dig straight down from almost anywhere in the continental United States*, you’ll end up in the Indian Ocean. I vote for NOT digging, because the Indian Ocean is bigger than the entire United States, and will probably flood all of the Tampa Bay area.
The only ones who can dig straight down to China are Argentinians and Chileans. And southern Argentina and Chile is opposite Russia.
*If you are reading this in Hawaii, go ahead and start digging. If you get past all the volcano stuff, you should end up on dry land in Botswana.
