fallen idol madness
I have one question - and it isn’t rhetorical. Would someone please explain the obsession with former American Idol contestant Jessica Sierra’s public meltdown?
After her most recent arrest, she made the front page of both newspapers and led newscasts on at least two local television stations.
But I just don’t get the fascination.
What am I missing here?
It’s like watching a train wreck, a plane crash.
She’s pitiful. A sad bimbo.

She’s fat and has awful roots, too.

I agree it is not front page news but because she is the closest thing Tampa has as a celebrity she will always get coverage. I hope they give her rehab as an option, she needs help but so do thousands of others in the jail system that we will not hear about.

The same thing that kept those Panther cheerleaders in the news, Debbie Lafave back on the front page, and Jerry Springer on the air, trashy girls with bad roots can be their own kind of hot.

It is sad that the media buzz on Sierra and LaFave have been overshadowing important news, for example, today’s Tribune headline:STATE TRIES TO QUELL INVESTOR FUND PANIC. Where various different counties are scrambling now to cover payroll and basic expenses due to the real estate mortgage problems. And 750 permanently Laid Off at a Home Depot call center in Riverview.
Seems to me, this is a little more important than two young ladies having issues.

I said the same thing about me and the congressional pages … but who listened?
In all seriousness, I’m with you. Sure, it might be interesting in the gossip pages or entertainment pages. But front pages? This populist mentality needs to end.

The fascination is it’s like watching a train wreck, a plane crash.

I certainly agree this is not front page news. Which leads me to the next issue of what the media feeds us as news. It seems to me all the local tv stations continually focus on Bollea, Sierra and Lafavre. I’m sick of it! We have an election year coming up, the war in Iraq is still raging and our dollar is in the tank. The news media on tv are selling products and entertainment. Give me a break!

“Go back to bed, America, your government has figured out how it all transpired. Go back to bed America, your government is in control. Here, here’s American Gladiators. Watch this, shut up, go back to bed America, here is American Gladiators, here is 56 channels of it! Watch these pituitary retards bang their f*cking skulls together and congratulate you on the living in the land of freedom. Here you go America - you are free (to do what well tell you)! You are free (to do what we tell you)!” - Bill Hicks, circa 1992
Some things don’t change, do they?

Another Bill Hicks fan! Right on.

American Gladiators is coming back too, that has no real bearing on this post but I just wanted to point out that it is awesome.
