Tampa City Councilman John Dingfelder’s analysis of city employees who might face layoffs next year shows more than 70 percent of the people affected are either black or Hispanic, and sees no reason for the City to cut spending.

A Tribune Editorial says Dingfelder is living in a financial fantasy world, and that outsourcing janitorial and security work is the way to go.

The tribune has the worst editorial board I have ever seen. What a bunch of crack smoking retards — so glad I stopped subscribing to that junk.

The issue should be about the quality of government services you get for what you pay for. You lose control when you outsource and you subject yourself to potential overcharging and mismanagement. The central driving force behind outsourcing is that a company can focus on its core competencies and therefore become more efficient and performing them. This efficiency is supposed to be translated into a cost savings for the consumer (in this instance city government). What people fail to realize (I’m looking at you cracking smoke retards) is that these outsourced contracts have to be managed. What we have seen over and over again is that first the paradigm for outsourcing is established and jobs are moved from being ‘city’ (or ‘federal’ or ’state, it’s all the same result) to being controlled by a private company. The city still has to manage them and when the next round of budget cuts come into play guess what city department/jobs gets the ax? The outsourcing administrative jobs do and then we lose oversight. When you lose oversight and can’t manage the contracts you can’t hold private company accountable and you LOSE ALL EFFICIENCIES. The mayor’s plan is not new or original — federal, state, and local governments all over the US have used it. And what’s the result? It always fails! I define failure in this instance as the end result is you pay more and get less. Keep control over the city workers, keep control over the tasks you are charged to do and stop trying to pass the buck — do the job you were elected to do and run the city.

Dingfelder as Tampa Mayor would be a disaster.

Iorio is disastrous. Anybody else is a major improvement. Dingfelder at least has the guts to speak out unlike all the special interest puppets.

Dingfelder is an idiot…a self serving one at that. Don’t for one minute think that because the majority of persons being layed off are minorities has called Ding’ into action. Ding wants to be Mayor and is playing to the crowd…the decision to make cuts where they were made while painful is a solid business practice. Sadly, the only people Ding’ is fooling are the one’s who think his bravado is genuine.
