goody goody lives

Sometimes you just want a good burger. Sometimes you just want a Goody Goody burger. Unfortunately, the Goody Goody closed two years ago. For those of you who loved the burgers with the special sauce, check out this email from our good friend Frank:

Everyone remembers the Goody-Goody Drive-in and Restaurant on Florida Av. that closed.

WELL good news. The last owner of the restaurant (who has the secret recipe for the hamburgers and that famous sauce) has committed to selling the sauce (not the recipe) to a restaurant on Florida Av. They are allowed to advertise them as the Goody-Goody original. The restaurant is The Pine Grove Family Restaurant (in a former Frisch’s Big Boy building) at 9399 N. Florida Av. (933-2795). It is just north of Busch Blvd. and from the old Floriland Mall. You can’t miss it on the east side of the street.

When you open their menu you will find another smaller cardstock that gives the history of the original Goody-Goody.

We tried them today and—YES! They are just as great as the original. They bring back the memories. So if you ever crave a Goody-Goody hamburger, now you have a place to get one.

P. S.- Don’t expect much in terms of ambiance.

Ambiance, shmambiance. Goody Goody burgers live!

Now, about that butterscotch pie…

If Goody Goody closed to make way for a condo tower, then that’s a dirty shame. All kinds of longtime institutions are being replaced in the name of progress. If that seems familiar, it happened in the ’70s! (So did bad fashion, jacked up gas prices, etc.)

Hey Tommy, here’s the full story:

(Full disclosure: Last time – and only time – I ate at Goody Goody was with Tommy Duncan. Who knew it would come in handy two years later?)

Is the sauce worth an hour drive?

The sauce is good but would be better if served on fresh pressed patties instead of frozen patties.
