I know an (ex-)editor who once wrote a column inviting readers to stop by a specific bar one evening and tell him what they thought about his paper. The publisher, sensing such a bar tab would bankrupt the company, pulled the column before it ran. No such thing as free beer, or sandwiches either. That’s great but who’s buying?
