office hours accomplishments

Here’s what I accomplished during my public office hours yesterday:

1. I cemented my plans for FX 2008, a convention I’m going to Jan. 25-27.

2. I read the Sunday St. Pete Times.

I think it was a success.

I also discovered that talking to publicists to grant access to some pretty big Sci-fi TV and movie stars wasn’t enough. The number one request (from the one person I talked to at Panera) for a star interview was Fat Momma from Who Wants to be a Superhero.

If anyone else has suggestions for attempted interviews with film folks or comic book creators, authors, or artists, leave a comment.

What is the point of this?

Like, if I bring you a story, what do you do with it? And why would someone give you his or her ideas rather than just use them independently?

What is the point of many comments on the blogosphere half the time? Rachel*, you’re hardly one to throw stones.

I used to get all worked up about nothing posts on blogs, but you know something … I have grown to enjoy them. Wendy here is simply expressing some of her thoughts, and I certainly don’t mind reading it, just as I don’t mind reading your thoughts Rachel*. If I don’t wish to read something, I simply move on …

Plus Wendy likes science-fiction. More power to her. ^_^

    Rachel*,

There are always people out there who have stories yet don’t have the time, desire, know-how, etc. to get them out there. Actually, every single person on the planet has a story. I’m just trying to make it easier for people to get their ideas and stories out there. I figure two hours out of my week is worth that. There are also a number of artists, galleries, theater companies and the like who are trying to promote their work. At the least, I’d like to see it.

If you brought me a story, I’d listen to it and consider whether or not I could use it for an article. I’d then let you know where it could fit, whether it would be better in a magazine, newspaper, or online outlet. I’d write up a draft and submit it for publication.

The beauty of this office hours thing is no one really loses. I can either sit and enjoy a cup of tea and the newspaper or talk to interesting people.

The other point of this is that I really would like to see if anyone who reads this would be interested in reading about any of the comic creators, actors, etc. who will be at the convention. In fact, if anyone on here has specific questions for them, I’d be happy to pass them along.

My favorite scifi shows are Battlestar and Jericho. If you are similarly interested and so inclined, you could bring back some news on those shows. That new Terminator show on fox looks pretty kewl too.
