lost without football?
Boosters say that having a National Football League team is a financial boon. People come to the city to watch the game, and use hotel rooms, eat at local restaurants, go shopping, and enjoy other entertainment options. Theoretically, these football fans walk around throwing money to you and I.
Of course, that would never happen without a football team, right?
The New York Giants are in town to play your Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the NFL playoffs. Well, they are not really “in town.” The Giants are being forced to stay at a hotel in St. Petersburg. Tampa doesn’t have enough hotel rooms because of “a busier-than-normal tourist season and a conference of the Professional Photographers of America.”

“…forced to stay in St. Petersburg.”
Interesting choice of words. Not to mention accurate.

They’re also probably not bringing many of those visitors with them since the Bucs tried to restrict ticket sales to Florida residents.

This sounds like bull. Giants wanted to stay in St. Pete to isolate themselves from any yahoo Bucs fans who would be looking for them closer to the stadium. More rooms have been built in Tampa since the last time the Giants were here, when the Ravens kicked their culos in the ‘01 Super Bowl. Can’t wait to hear their excuses after the Bucs do the same Sunday.

An investigation is needed. Who booked these hotel rooms when there was a possibility of a playoff game? Football is much more important than a lousy photographers convention. Heads should roll…
