ronda storms: pastafarianism is ok!
The teaching of the theory of evolution was made a requirement just last month. But now, Ronda Storms has introduced a bill that will allow teachers to contradict the theory of evolution. If the bill passes, educators will be able to teach anything they want, including pastafarianism:
Florida Sen. Ronda Storms, a Republican from Valrico, is taking on the theory of evolution.
On Friday she introduced an Academic Freedom Act designed to tweak the state’s recently adopted educational standard that calls for science teachers to teach evolution.
Storms said the new bill merely says teachers should have the freedom to teach what they want, including theories that may contradict the prevalent theories of biological and chemical evolution…
The bill does not specifically mention pastafarianism, but basically, if a teacher wants to present the beliefs of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, this bill would protect them.
Way to go, Ronda!

As a believer in pastafarianism, I support Ronda Storms in this measure so that we can finally get our due! Maybe we can also force the cafeterias to stop serving our god as lunch, too. =P
Why do people continue to say that “other theories need to be taught”? I mean, they are calling creationism/intelligent design a “theory” … but it’s not a theory the same way evolution is a theory.
Here is the primary definition of “theory”: “A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.”
What aspect of creationism/intelligent design has been tested? What part can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena?
What I love about these creationism yuks are that they don’t believe in evolution, yet they do believe that homosexuals will eventually be Darwined out of society because they feel that genetics would be passed along directly to offspring, and that you can only catch gay from someone who is gay.
Sometimes I wish Darwinism would work a little harder to get these ID people out of the system. Yet, they keep reproducing and passing their idiocy to others.

That’s a slippery slope. If it passes, then the freedom to teach what you want would be easy to use with other areas of study. Ronda may have just shot herself in the foot. If this passes, it would be possible to use the precedent to teach GLBT studies.

And this is why Florida is down the tubes in education! Get out of the fray Ronda! Take care of the business of the economy and budget of Florida; not what should be taught in school. Leave that to the professional educators who know what to do….

Senator Storms is one of our finest 19th century policicians, and she represents her ignorant constituents very well.

C’mon folks, we all know that Ronda’s church is the United Church of the Dollar Bill.
